Safeco Community Hero Award – What People are Saying About Edgardo

…Edgardo has been a wonderful leader in our community, and Americana has been at the forefront of helping our large multicultural immigrant population assimilate and become productive citizens.”     -Debbie Copeland

I volunteered at Americana while in college. I continue to support their programs more than 10 years later. I love the fact that Edgardo leads the center. His hard work has meant meaningful change in the neighborhood and positive growth for the children in the community.”     -Stephanie Poynor

Through Edgardo’s leadership, the Americana Community Center has grown into one of largest and most productive centers of hope for adults and children in the Louisville Metro community. The ACC’s adult education program is among the largest and most successful in the Jefferson County Public Schools Adult and Continuing Education system, providing full service education in English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, and post-secondary education preparation. Edgardo’s active support and leadership of these programs has given thousands of adults new opportunities in their lives. His dedication, hard work, and community leadership qualifies him as a true ‘Community Hero’!”     -Wayne Couvillion

I taught ESL and volunteered years ago at Americana underneath Edgardo’s leadership. He has made wonderful progress with the center over the years and has provided so many important services for the community. He has created a safe location for kids and families that provides education, compassion, friendship, and valuable community resources. He is very deserving of this award!”     -Robin Lindsay

I serve a private foundation that has been committed to Edgardo’s leadership and Americana’s mission from the earliest days. Investment in Edgardo and his team, over the years, has helped to define Louisville as a forward-looking, hopeful community. No local leader has done more to serve new Americans than he has done.”     -Bruce

I was president of the IABA Business Association where I became associated with Edgardo. He was not only a member but a participant with a cause – the betterment of the community. His tireless and dedicated efforts should not go unrewarded. We need more people with his dedication and commitment.”     -Ed Hammond

As a recipient of the Safeco Community Hero Award, Edgardo has already won $5,000 for Americana Community Center. To help Americana win an additional $5,000 or $10,000, please vote for Edgardo every 24 hours until 1:00pm on Monday, June 3rd here:
