Spotlight on Melodie Hardison: January’s Volunteer-of-the-Month

Our volunteers are amazing. We couldn’t do this work without their help. Every month, we’d like to highlight one of our volunteers and say a very special thank you.

For January, we’d like to say a very big THANK YOU to Melodie Hardison who came every week to teach a Zumba class. The amount of joy that came from this class was powerful. We appreciate all you’ve done, Melodie.

Melodie gets a group of elementary students moving (and laughing!) with Zumba.

A message from our volunteer-of-the-month: “Hi, my name is Melodie Hardison and it has been my pleasure to volunteer as a Zumba instructor at Americana Community Center. I have been teaching Zumba for about a year now and attending classes for 3 years. I am also in my 8th year as an elementary educator. Currently, I am teaching for the Compassionate Schools Project at Gilmore Lane Elementary School. Through Zumba, I have been able to help my students learn new genres of dance, such as Cumbia, Salsa, Reggaeton, Merengue, and Soca. We also practice balance and coordination, but most of all we have fun without any judgment or pressure. I have enjoyed my time with the children of Americana and I hope to work with the Center in future endeavors! Thank you for the opportunity!”
